The Theatre Arts workshop is designed for children aged 3 to 5½ years
who may be already attending nursery, pre-school or school. These workshops
are 45 minutes each week and involve concentration, instruction from the teacher
and require a higher level of cognitive understanding, language skills and gross
motor skills. These workshops are designed to promote independence and school
readiness.
The Theatre Arts programme explores a theme using a variety of movement, voice,
text and art. Each term ends with a performance to family and friends. The class
involves acting, singing, dancing and a large number of fun activities designed
to build a child’s confidence and encourage interaction with others. In
both Key Stages 1 and 2 of the Schools' National Curriculum in the UK, music,
dance and drama are seen as a way to develop control, co-ordination, poise, expression
of feelings, expression of moods, expression of ideas and response to music. The
Theatre Arts programme develops all of these important skills and in doing so
promotes independence and school readiness.
