How it all started
In 1976, a mum named Joan Barnes began searching for a safe, fun and nurturing place for new parents and children to play together. Unable to do so, she tapped her enterprising spirit and started Gymboree. Gymboree was born, offering a series of parent/child programmes devoted to the physical, emotional and social development of children. More than 30 years later, Gymboree is the world leader in developmental children's programming, engaging parents and children in 27 countries around the world.

A programme designed by experts
Behind every Gymboree class is a team of programming experts who create a curriculum of activities that maximise the learning benefits for your child’s specific development level. When you attend a Gymboree class, you have their years of education, experience and leadership working to help your child reach his or her potential. And best of all, Gymboree is pure fun, following the Gymboree ethos of ‘learning through play’.

The role of parents/carers: interaction and fun
Young children learn best - and have the most fun - when parents and carers enter their world of play and imagination. Time spent playing with mum, dad or a carer contributes to healthy emotional development, builds trust between parent and child, and helps children feel confident whilst exploring and learning. Gymboree classes feature a parent or carer as an active participant and play partner; embrace this role and be a role model for your child’s enthusiastic participation in all Gymboree activities.

Age-appropriate activities
Gymboree offers a wide range of classes to closely match your child’s unique stage of development. Our class levels are based on development, not age, thus ensuring that children always feel comfortable and secure in their environment. Children move to new class levels once they are developmentally ready rather than strictly based on age.
